In der von Bergen umgebenen, kleinen Stadt Tepoztlán in Mexiko wächst Karla auf. Der Dokumentarfilm begleitet sie über acht Jahre hinweg, vom Kindsein in die Jugendzeit, von ersten Fragen bis zu einem klaren Gefühl für sich selbst. Karla ist trans*, und der Film zeigt, wie Identität nicht plötzlich »da« ist, sondern sich entfaltet, etwa in Gesprächen mit Freund*innen, durch Blicke von Außenstehenden, in Kleidung und Make-Up, beim Sport mit anderen Mädchen.

Karla grows up in the small mountain town of Tepoztlán in Mexico. The documentary follows her over a period of eight years, from childhood into adolescence, from the first tentative questions to the moment she understands exactly who she is. Karla is trans, and the film shows how identity doesn’t suddenly »appear«, but evolves gradually – in conversations with friends, through the gazes of strangers, in clothing and make-up, playing sports with other girls.
