SUMMARY:WAKE UP\, SERBIA! PUMPAJ: THE STUDENT UPRISING & NEUES VOM BALLABAL
 LA-BALKAN
DESCRIPTION:Film & Podcast\n\nESP 2025\, Regie: Raúl Gallego Abellán\, 74
  Min\, OmeU\n\n\n\n\n\n(engl. version below)\n\n\n\nWAKE UP\, SERBIA! PUMP
AJ: THE STUDENT UPRISING\n\nEmmy-Preisträger Raül Gallego Abellán\, Reg
isseur der preisgekrönten Dokumentarserie Point of No Return\, begleitet
 ifft.\n\n\n\nWAKE UP\, SERBIA! PUMPAJ: THE STUDENT UPRISING\n\nInternation
al Emmy Award winner Raül Gallego Abellán\, director of the award-winnin
g documentary series Point of No Return\, follows Serbia’s student prote
st movement from close up in his latest film. What began with the collapse
of the railway station in Novi Sad and demands for accountability has gro
wn into a nationwide movement. Universities are being occupied\, young peo
ple are taking to the streets and demanding a different future for their c
ountry. The film captures courage and solidarity\, but also contradictions
\, exhaustion and the question of how far a peaceful movement can go when
confronting an established political system.\n\n\n\nAfter the screening an
d a short break\, we take a deep dive into the subject with the live podca
st Neues vom Balla Balla Balkan: Krsto Lazarević\, Danijel Majic and Fran
ziska Tschinderle pick up on the stories and questions raised by the film\
, put the latest developments into context and discuss what the uprising o
f Serbia’s students tells us about the country – and about Europe toda
y.\n\n\n\nPlease note: The film will be screened in OVE with English subti
tles (Serbian original version with English subtitles). The live podcast w
 ill be held in German..\n\n\n\nhttps://cinematheque-leipzig.de/programm/fi
