Emmy-Preisträger Raül Gallego Abellán, Regisseur der preisgekrönten Dokumentarserie Point of No Return, begleitet in seinem neuesten Film die studentische Protestbewegung in Serbien aus nächster Nähe. Was mit dem Einsturz des Bahnhofs von Novi Sad und dem Ruf nach Aufklärung und Verantwortlichkeit begann, ist zu einer landesweiten Bewegung geworden. Universitäten werden besetzt, junge Menschen gehen auf die Straße und fordern eine andere Zukunft für ihr Land. Der Film erzählt von Mut und Solidarität, aber auch von Widersprüchen, Erschöpfung und der Frage, wie weit eine friedliche Bewegung gegen ein etabliertes politisches System gehen kann.
Nach dem Screening und einer kurzen Pause geht es direkt weiter: Im Live-Podcast Neues vom Balla Balla Balkan tauchen Krsto Lazarević, Danijel Majic und Franziska Tschinderle tief in das Thema ein. Gemeinsam mit dem Publikum schauen sie hinter die Bilder des Films, ordnen die Proteste politisch ein und diskutieren, was gerade in Serbien passiert – und warum uns das weit über Serbien hinaus betrifft.

International Emmy Award winner Raül Gallego Abellán, director of the award-winning documentary series Point of No Return, follows Serbia’s student protest movement from close up in his latest film. What began with the collapse of the railway station in Novi Sad and demands for accountability has grown into a nationwide movement. Universities are being occupied, young people are taking to the streets and demanding a different future for their country. The film captures courage and solidarity, but also contradictions, exhaustion and the question of how far a peaceful movement can go when confronting an established political system.
After the screening and a short break, we take a deep dive into the subject with the live podcast Neues vom Balla Balla Balkan: Krsto Lazarević, Danijel Majic and Franziska Tschinderle pick up on the stories and questions raised by the film, put the latest developments into context and discuss what the uprising of Serbia’s students tells us about the country – and about Europe today.
